The American Southwest – Wintering in Arizona

We arrived at Gold Canyon RV & Golf Resort in Gold Canyon, Arizona on October 1st with plans to leave on March 31st.   However, when RVing, weather and travel sometimes just do not mix.  So with the crazy weather we had most of the winter, which continued into the spring, we decided we would stay through most of April before heading out on our 2019 summer journey.

Not only did the Superstition mountains have snow on their peaks, they were completely covered this past winter after a freak snowstorm hit the Phoenix Area.

Yes, the weather in Arizona this past winter was less than desirable at times.   But then other days were simply perfection!  Locals and those who have been long time snowbirds assured us that the rain and cold we experienced this winter is the norm.  We’re taking their word for it and have decided we’ll return again next year!

Spring bloom in the desert

One of the benefits of good winter rains in the desert is the spring desert bloom. The colorful and vibrant beauty of the desert after a winter of  rainfall is amazing!  Below are a few examples…..

Arizona Sunsets

Another beautiful sight in Arizona are the magnificent sunsets!  I love sunsets and can’t resist taking pictures of them.  Here are a few I captured…

Arizona has much to offer.  There are many things to do, things to see, activities, etc.   People who have never been here  think of Arizona as nothing more than a hot dry desert – it is anything but that!  Arizona showcases mountains, pine forests, canyons, and a fair number of lakes and rivers!  It’s full of color; red rocks, blue skies, green trees.  There is something for everyone.

Arizona Lakes and Rivers

Many of you have told us you enjoy our pictures.  So for that reason we will offer a display of pictures with captions of the places we’ve visited and things we did see and do.  We hope you enjoy.  We did.  Perhaps some of what you see will spark an interest in you to plan a trip to see and experience Arizona.   It’s an amazing place!

Friends – Old and new in Arizona!

Sedona, Taliesin West, and Grand Canyon

Thought you might enjoy this video clip – we stayed in Williams when we visited the Grand Canyon and took the Grand Canyon Railway to the south rim.  There was lot’s of entertainment along the way – it was fun!   Entertaining for all ages.  The kiddos on the train loved it!

Queen Valley ATVing

We took a video when we were up in higher elevations.

We are making our way back to the east coast for the summer.  Our itinerary includes Maine and the Fingerlake region in upstate New York  among other many other places, including a trip home to visit with family and friends.   So stay tuned for upcoming Wike adventures!
